A Moment

I sit by the window
The warmth on my face
A distant noise can be heard
But the warmth and quiet inside makes me forget
For a moment I am transported
To a simple time of dreams
To a simple longing for the vaguely familiar
I breathe deeply and exhale
My eyes close and mind opens
A gentle whispering
From the past
Someone I used to be
Someone I try to now connect with
The distant noise gets louder
Just the way it always does
The quiet now gets distant, as does the past
And my eyes open
My breathing back to being labored
My past gone
I am in the now again
And I am me
